Fashion Week MN Announces Spring 2018 Lineup

Fashion Week MN (FWMN) will host its spring edition on April 23-29, 2018. Every spring and fall, FWMN organizes a week-long installment of events showcasing the designers, brands, retailers, producers, stylists, artists, influencers, models, photographers and other creatives who are elevating the Minnesota style scene.

This spring, expect another exciting lineup that showcases the work of our local style veterans and introduces new talent. Highlights include an Afrocentric runway show featuring all people-of-color designers and talent produced by Culture Piece Magazine (Sun., April 29), a traveling fashion designer studio event, Studio Progressive (Thu., April 26), and the return of the long-running eco-fashion show, Innovations, presented by Sol Inspirations and Fashion Revolution MN (Sat., April 28). The week’s events emphasize inclusivity within the local fashion community, including body positivity, people of color, queer style, underground fashion, and sustainable apparel and accessories.

Thursday, April 19: The Scout Guide Minneapolis + W Minneapolis present “Minnstafashion: Official Fashion Week MN Kickoff” @ W Minneapolis: Dress to impress while mingling with members of the local fashion community in anticipation of Fashion Week MN: Spring 2018 at this kickoff event, which features live fashion presentations, pop-up shopping, live DJ, and prizes for best dressed. 

Monday, April 23: Workerby presents “Gray Matter Series: Sense of Place” @ 514 Studios: Part of an ongoing collaborations led by Anna Lee, this pop-up gallery and shopping experience launches the SS2018 collection of one-of-a-kind hats and digitally printed scarves from the paintings of Ruby3 by Anna Lee accompanied by the original paintings and photo/video exhibition. Monday, April 23: “slate collective: session 01” at Le Meridien Chambers: slate collective by Minneapolis-based fashion designer Allison Quinnell is a thoughtful collection of versatile silhouettes that merge design and art through a series of artist-designed prints. The designer presents her new collection, slate collective, in an unconventional fashion presentation that includes an artist exhibition, performance, and live models.

Tuesday, April 24: Fox Den Salon presents “Flagrant: Fashion of the Fringe” @ Phoenix Theater: This runway event showcases eclectic collections from designers from the center out to the fringes of the local queer community paired with trend-forecasting editorial and ready-to-wear hair and makeup styling, plus an off-the-rack pop-up and cocktail hour following the show.

Wednesday, April 25: Fashion Group International of Minneapolis-St. Paul presents “Accelerating Your Brand: Media, Styling & Exposure” @ the Bachelor Farmer: The event will feature a social/cocktail hour with hors d’oeuvres followed by a business panel presentation and a discussion on the emerging and current topics in the business featuring local fashion business professionals.

Wednesday, April 25: Cake Plus-Size Resale presents “Fat Festival Fashion” @ Cake Plus-Size Resale: In anticipation of the summer festival season, Cake Plus-Size Resale shop will showcase fashion-forward, plus-size festival looks in a live fashion presentation and pop-up shopping event that celebrates body positivity and and plus-size style.

Thursday, April 26: “Studio Progressive” @ Northrup King Building & Karen Morris Millinery Studio: Taking place at several design studios within the Northeast Minneapolis Arts District, this traveling event will offer a behind-the-scenes look into the creative workspaces of local clothing, bridal, handbag, jewelry, and hat designers, including Strey Designs, Karen Morris Millinery, and others. Learn about designers’ tools and techniques, and observe pop-up fashion shows and live photo shoots throughout the evening.

Saturday, April 28: “Global Fashion, Local Flair” @ Galleria: Head to Galleria for a soirée of international fashion experience by local, independent women-owned boutiques, including dugo, Roe Wolfe, and Big Island Swim & Surf. The afternoon features the opportunity to meet and mingle with seasoned fashion experts, plus enjoy live modeling, exclusive pop-up shops, snacks and sips, and more.

Saturday, April 28: Sol Inspirations & Fashion Revolution MN present “Innovations 2018” (location TBA): This annual sustainable fashion show features a series of eco-fashion design challenges from Twin Cities students and stylists as well as clothing and accessories by seasoned slow-fashion designers, fair-trade labels, and sustainable brands. Sunday, April 29: Hazel & Rose presents “Circa Now” @ Hazel & Rose: An in-store fashion show, panel discussion, and pop-up shop, Circa Now marries vintage, thrifted, and new fashion to highlight the different ways to shop sustainably and ethically.

Sunday, April 29: Cliché presents “Crosswalk” @ Cliché: This unique, traveling fashion show will take place at the crosswalk outside of Uptown boutique Cliché, featuring models styled in a variety of looks from Cliché’s spring collections and spring capsule collections by local designers Jenny Carle and Mikaela Harrod.

Sunday, April 29: Culture Piece Magazine presents “New Aged Noir” (location TBA): Local arts and culture publication, Culture Piece Magazine, presents its rendition on the Afrocentric and revolutionary Black culture of today in a traditional runway fashion show featuring an all-POC lineup of designers, models, stylists, and production, accompanied by live performances, a larger-than-life, interactive art installation, and a pop-up shop featuring POC artists.
