What is Fashion Week MN?
Fashion Week Minnesota is a bi-annual event of runway shows, presentations, panels, and shopping events used to highlight the current collections of Minnesota-based designers, brands, and retailers. The event is organized by Fashion Week MN, a volunteer-run, community-oriented, not-for-profit organization that organizes two fashion weeks each year—a spring edition in April, and a fall edition in September. Annually, FWMN is attended by more than 2,500 attendees during more than 15 events in 7 days.
The mission of Fashion Week MN is to cultivate the interconnected fashion economy of the North that inspires, drives and supports creativity while breeding opportunity in a global market.
We strategically present fashion of the North with the focus and support built on five strong pillars:
- Education: to provide fundamental tools and material for the community to be successful and equal opportunity
- Innovation: to launch a series of diverse forms in fashion while recognizing creative expression that provides a global perspective
- Reputation: to respect and act upon ethical and sustainable business practices
- Business: to provide support for individuals and small businesses opportunities on a local to a global scale
- Investment: to improve the inclusivity of the local fashion community so that it may support and curate an approachable form of creative expression
Hamdi Mohamed, Director
Hamdi Mohamed has been involved in the Twin Cities fashion community for years. He started in the the modeling industry when he was 16 and eventually transitioned over to the production side of things. He’s also worked behind the scenes at several FWMN events. He is super passionate about marketing, and he truly believes in its value, whether it’s for a corporation, a startup brand, or a personal brand. Jahna Peloquin, Co-Founder
Jahna Peloquin is a Minneapolis-based writer, content creator and fashion consultant with a passion for storytelling, style, the arts and community. Over the past decade, Jahna has been a leading voice in the Twin Cities fashion industry as the Style Editor for Minnesota Monthly, a contributing style writer for Star Tribune and a fashion director for projects including Voltage: Fashion Amplified. She cut her teeth as an arts and culture contributor to Star Tribune weekly Vita.mn, and later led Minneapolis arts publication l’étoile magazine as its Editor-in-Chief. Sarah Edwards, Co-Founder
Sarah Edwards creates unique experiences that intertwine community, art, goodwill and fashion. A few of her projects include I AM MPLS!, I AM ST. PAUL!, and I AM Kindness. Sarah is driven by helping and connecting ideas and people that she believes in, and fueled by the entrepreneurial energy and collaborative spirit of the Twin Cities. As a fashion stylist, connector, event producer, philanthropist, and a promoter Minneapolis/St. Paul talent, she imagines a new environment in which we are closer connected to resources and people that can make our dreams a reality. Christina Fortier, Advisor
Christina Fortier is a Twin Cities based Creative Director, Wardrobe Stylist and Founder and Host of Blunt Cuts Podcast. She is passionate about the Twin Cities fashion community, female empowerment, curiosity, authenticity and story-telling. Fortier began her fashion career in Paris and her interests quickly became focused on creative direction and fashion styling which allowed Fortier to combine her passion and fashion industry knowledge with an education in design into editorial storytelling. Chandler Weir, Marketing Manager
Chandler Weir is a Minneapolis native who recently returned to the North after working in marketing and sales roles across New York, Arkansas and Charlotte, NC, over the last four years. She is excited to leverage her skills and experiences in beauty and fashion to enable Fashion Week MN to reach and connect more people in the Minneapolis community. In addition to her sales and marketing experiences, Chandler also began her modeling career working with small business owners in Charlotte which led to her debut in Charleston Fashion Week. She is excited to combine her experiences modeling in the South with her love for the Minneapolis fashion community.
Sassa Kangas, Operations Manager
Sassa Kangas is a Twin Cities native with a high involvement in the worlds of fashion, recruiting and community. She has spent multiple seasons modeling for Minnesota designers as well as planning events and executing social media marketing. Having an unwavering belief in the talent and creativity rooted in Minneapolis, she has her eyes set on elevating awareness and support for the local fashion community. As an operations manager for a local recruiting agency, Sassa is an expert at offering a relationship-based approach to logistical planning, problem solving, and plan execution.
