A Mission to Zero Emissions: Polestar x FWMN
Committing to sustainability comes in many forms and, thankfully, our car can be part of it, thanks to Polestar.
Finding sustainability in our transportation is nothing new; we all know about those trendsetters back in the day who converted their cars to run on used vegetable oil decades ahead of their time. However, now, we have not only widespread technology on our side but innovative minds that design cars with a mindfulness towards the life cycle of the entire vehicle.
Polestar x FWMN are both leading the way in showing the world how sustainability can be done. By promoting the concept of products made from recycled materials as well as keeping their products on driveways (and runways), Polestar x FWMN reduces overall waste that ends up drifting from landfill to landfill. FWMN frequenters and other textile fans will be delighted to know that the internal furnishings of the Polestar are made mostly from recycled materials. They make things like yarn derived from PET bottles or repurpose fishing nets, cork, and bottle toppers to make the fabrics used in their seats, making it so that every time you get in the Polestar, you're practically wearing an upcycled outfit. In the same way that every fashionable person saves their things in the knowledge that trends will come back around, Polestar also repurposes and refurbishes its own cars and batteries to extend the life cycle of their products, meaning that your car (like your clothes) never has to go out of style.
Even though all of the things they produce are already remarkable, Polestar x FWMN continue going one step further in their work. By making the conscious choice to sustainably source their raw materials as well, any buyer can be assured that their purchase is both well made and made with little impact on the environment. With these efforts in place, we can make sure that our personal needs are met without harming the world around us.
As we look into the future, Polestar x FWMN sets goals for themselves to push their own creativity as well as the bar. Their long-term project, Polestar 0, is a deeply ambitious project that seeks to make a completely carbon neutral car by 2030. This means not only having a vehicle that runs on electricity, but also to eliminate their carbon footprint in the supply chain and manufacturing process without having to use offsetting methods. To do this, they’re employing reasonable goals spaced over the next few years that involve things like phasing out materials that don’t meet their objectives of resource efficiency and circularity in favor of materials that do. Past that, they’re attempting to also have a completely carbon neutral company by 2040. They’re focusing in on absolute emissions: identifying and tracking the emission output of each department within Polestar and working to eliminate them. Polestar is attempting to achieve these plans by setting targets within five year increments (a level of time management that any production professional can admire).
